Several Cars Hit Poles

Eight persons were injured when cars struck poles in various part of Christchurch at the week-end. A Ford Mustang car was extensively damaged when it struck a pole in Waimairi road just south of Athol terrace about 4.25 a.m. on Saturday. The driver, Robin Paulin, of the United States Naval Support Force, suffered head injuries. He was admitted to the Burwood Hospital. The car pushed the pole on an angle and brought down power lines, cutting off the street lights and power to nearby houses. Mr Paulin was flung into the back seat. Head and arm injuries were suffered by Eric Sincock, of 143 Main North road, Kaiapoi, when a car hit a pole in Papanui road, near Mays road, about 1.10 a.m. yesterday. He was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital.

Three persons were injured when a car struck a pole ‘in Pages road outside the .Aranui Post Office about 2.15 a.m. yesterday. Shirley Ann Watkins, of 7 Bolton avenue, suffered head and leg injuries.

Edward John Stracken, of Orbell street, suffered head injuries and shock. Jennifer Bradbury, of 32 Dominion avenue, suffered leg injuries They were treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Michael Tuhouta, of 7£ Bayne street, was treated al the Christchurch Hospital foi head injuries after a car hit a pole in Travis road, neai Barkers road, about 6 25 p.m on Saturday.

When a car hit a pole in Gloucester street about 1.37 p.in. on Saturday. Robin Joesph Curtis, of Burnham Military Camp, suffered head injuries, and Edward Donner, of Cashel street, suffered head and leg injuries. They were treated at the Christchurch Hospital.

Car Rolls Over.—Ann Hooper, of 269 Barbadoes street, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital suffering from chest and leg injuries after a car rolled over on Dyers Pass road about 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. Allan Dunn, of 35 Spencer street, was treated at the Christchurch Hospital for arm injuries. Fell Off Scooter.—Arm and leg injuries were suffered by Patricia Ann Cook, of 583 Worcester street, when she fell off a motor-scooter in Springrove street yesterday afternoon. She was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. Struck By Car.—A pedestrian suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a car in Bealey avenue about 7.8 p.m. on Saturday. He is Jack Douglas Miller, of 300 Westminster street, who was admitted to the recovery ward of the Christchurch Hospital. He was on the seriously ill list last evening. Head Injuries.—When two cars collided in Blenheim road on Saturday evening Roderick McKay, of 23 Austin street, suffered head injuries and shock. He was admitted to the f Princess Margaret Hospital. Three Injured.—A car rolled over at Harewood road a quarter of a mile west of Russley road last evening. Roy Thomas Roberts, of 82 Tilford street, suffered an injury to his left hand. Terence Graham Thomson, of 103 Smith street, suffered head injuries and shock, and Kirby Craig of 10 Irvine street, suffered arm and leg injuries.
