13th WIN IN SUCCESSION
Shooting Shield To Nelson (From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, March 17. When the Nelson College shooting team is beaten for the “Weekly Press” Shield, the main foyer of the college will probably have to be repainted. The shield has been at the head of the stairway for the last 12 years, and the wall behind it has had only the briefest opportunity of fading —just as long as it takes for the shield to be taken down, taken outside, and presented to the winning team. It had its annual airing today when the commander of the Southern Military District (Brigadier W. R. K. Morrison), in the presence of Mr A. J. Sandom, manager of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd., the donor company, presented it to the school for its thirteenth successive win.
The team, for the second successive year, had the highest score in New Zealand A similar shield is competed for in the North Island. The presentation was the climax of the college’s barracks week, which ended to-
day. Two of the team—Staff Sergeants R. M. V. Donald and J A. Gawith —received their third medals as members of the winning team. Other members of the team were Sergeant R. F. Hudson, Corporal N. A. Wall, Leading Seaman D. C. Maddever, Able Seaman T. M. Reynolds, and Cadets T. D. Ashworth, B. T. Woolcombe, A. S. Brown, and D. Ward
