Goodray Picked In Stakes At Epsom

"The Press" Special Service

AUCKLAND. Goodray would need only to race up to the form he showed at a matinee meeting at Alexandra Park on Monday to be the most difficult to beat in the Great Northern Trotting Stakes at Alexandra Park tonight. Happy Hal, Spare Parts, Caledonian Forbes and Henry Alan also are assured of big followings. The race carries a very modest stake compared with other name events for two-year-olds but is one of the oidest juvenile classics and competition is very keen. Among the winners have been Young Charles, Smoke Cloud, Highland Fling and Full Sovereign. It is a pity the Auckland club does not give a bigger stake, especially as the Ashburton and Waimate clubs in the South Island give £2500 and £lOOO for the New Zealand Sapling Stakes and Golden Slipper Stakes respectively. Elegant Hanover and Prince Garry look good prospects for the T.A.B. double. Neither paid a dividend on the first night of the meeting, but both were extremely unlucky. The weather is expected to be fine and the track will be fast. Selections:
