‘lnfluence On U.S.’

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 17. The British Prime Minister, Mr Harold Wilson, said last night that he would have dissociated Britain from United States action in Vietnam If he had thought it would have hastened the end of the war there. But he did not think it would, and he felt that the Soviet Union was anxious Britain should not dissociate itself.

“Although I don’t suppose the Soviet Government would say this in a public declaration, I believe they are as anxious as anyone that we do not dissociate ourselves from the Americans. “It is vital that we have an influence on the Americans and at the crucial moment, whenever it comes—it nearly came last onth—that we can bring both sides to the conference table.”
