Lordship, Tobias Picked In Heats
Tobias and Lordship, the beaten favourites on Tuesday night, will be strongly supported once more in the two-mile heats of the Easter Cup at Addington Raceway tomorrow.
Both Tobias and Lordship paced splendid races on Tuesday, Tobias qualifying for the final by finishing fourth and recording fastest time in his sprint heat. Lordship lost ground at the start of his heat and reproduced much of the brilliance that has marked his racing this season by finishing seventh. The extra distance tomorrow will suit Lordship, which looks ready to record a fast time for the two miles. Tobias was most unlucky when he finished fourth on
Tuesday. His driver, J. Butcher, is unlikely to make the same mistake and allow himself to be blocked in on the rails. If he receives a few of the breaks in the running, he should go close to winning. Chequer Board was knocked down at the start of his race on Tuesday and he was never
near the lead. That failure can be overlooked. His meeting with Tobias should be a highlight of the night, and it will not surprise if he finishes in front of his younger rival.
Fielder went a useful race for second behind Raven Song on Tuesday and he, too. should get into the finish. Admire, Doctor Barry and Master Alan are others capable of a bold showing. Difficult Task Lordship will be set a difficult task from 54 yards in his heat, the second leg of the main double. His run on Tuesday was outstanding. He lost about 18 yards at the start and had to drop back as he began to improve inside the last six furlongs. Even then he finished seventh and recorded 2min 32 4-ssec for his 10 furlongs from post to post. His opening quarter took 30sec, and his last half-mile 58 4-ssec. It was the effort of a real champion and one that entitles him to be a firm favourite once more. Great Adios paced his best race at Addington when he made up ground for third behind Raven Song. He has done well in the meantime and should again be one of the better prospects. Cuddle Doon went an im-
prover’s race for fifth on Tuesday. He will appreciate the extra distance in this heat and should take beating. .“ Bright Highland, which will be trying for her third successive win, Spry and Allakasam are others in fine form at present and they, too, could make Lordship’s task a difficult one. The on-course concession double will be run on the heats of the New Zealand Trotting Championship.
Fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
