The decision to race Beira at Ha.wera rather than Trentham this week has drawn further attention to her chance in the Opunake Cup. Now she could be a firm favourite for the race which will be the first leg of the T.A.B. double today.

Beira's form has been good. She has not started since winning at Taranaki last Wednesday, and since then she has done particularly well. Whakamoa and Tarim are strong rivals, especially Tarin, which was impressive in his Waipukurau success earlier this week. Jen Hal also looked a distinct prospect after a splendid gallop yesterday morning. The Understudy—Alkira bracket appeals for the St. Patrick’s Handicap, the second leg of the main double. The weather has been fine for several days and the track will be fast.
