COACH’S DEBUT
Drawn With Coman I Making his first appearance in Christchurch, the New Zealand cricket coach, M. J. Horton, will play P. G. Coman in the first round of the East Christchurch-Shirley club’s single-wicket tournament on Sunday at Burwood Park. Coman was the leading allrounder for the Canterbury B team this season, both players are off-spinners. The New Zealand twelfth man, R. S. Cunis, is a late entry, and will play the Lancaster Park all-rounder, A. M. McKendry, who has recently returned from Australia. One of the closest matches should be between R. C- Merrin, the architect of North Canterbury’s Hawke Cup victory against Manawatu, and J. W. Kiddey, one of Canterbury’s most successful Plunket Shield bowlers. E. H. M. Richards, Canterbury’s No. 1 golfer and run-ner-up in last year’s New Zealand match-play title, is playing M. L. Ryan, the Canterbury opening batsman. The first round draw is:
