Sharks At Amberley
Two sharks, estimated to be 6ft. -were seen swimming in the breakers at Amberley beach yesterday morning. A light plane flying in the area was the first to see the sharks and the information was passed first to the Christchurch police then to the Amberley police, and finally to local residents. Mrs P. Cornelius, of Amberley Beach, said the police told her of the sharks about 11.40 a.m. and when she walked down to the beach from her home she saw them swimming in the breakers about 25yds off the beach.
She saw only one person on the beach some distance south of where the sharks were, and after being told of their presence, the youth decided to abandon his swim.
Policy Criticised.—-The recent monthly meeting of the Canterbury regional council of the New Zealand Social Credit Political League passed a motion saying that it viewed with alarm and concern the redundancy of staffs of firms in Christchurch caused by the Government’s mismanagement and fiscal policy.
