RUGBY TOUR OF NORTH
Proposals For Country Team Canterbury Country Rugby players will have the added incentive of a northern tour for their senior representative team this season. The proposed tour will include matches against Marlborough, Horowhenua, Bush and Wairarapa. The four unions have signified their willingness to accept matches against a touring Country team. The tour is expected to take place about the end of June and the beginning of July. This was reported to the Canterbury Rugby Sub-Unions Association annual meeting, by the retiring chairman (Mr R. D. Catherwood) who mentioned a need also for the association to have more representative fixtures arranged on a home and away basis. Profit on the last year was not as great as in 1965, with expenditure higher because of travel to Oamaru to play North Otago, said the report. The share of the country gate was down by £lOO but the association had been helped by a special grant of £BOO from the Canterbury union. Of this grant, £6OO had been distributed to the individual sub-unions and £2OO had been allocated to the association’s tour fund, which this year will be depleted by the northern tour.
