Presbyter, Not Priest
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 16. Anglican and Methodist ministers should be called presbyters and not priests, says a report called “Towards Reconciliation,” released today by the Anglican-Method-ist Unity Commission. The commission said the change would not be welcomed by some Anglicans—but it was hoped they would accept it. "The word ‘presbyter’ is a very old word, older than the word ‘priest’,” the Bishop of London, Dr. Robert Stopford, said at a press conference in connexion with the report. Dr. Stopford, chairman of the Church of England representatives on the commission, said there had been no “horse trading” to achieve what had been done so far.
