R. D. Mann, one of Canterbury’s most consistent cyclists, on track or road, for the last six years, achieved one of his most notable successes at last evening’s final meeting of the season at English Park.

Mann broke by 2.3 sec the seven-year-old record held by A. Larkins (Otago-South-land), for a three-mile handicap race in which a scratch rider wins. Mann’s time was 6min 12.8 sec.

There was also a chance of a record for the two miles but some tardiness—and short laps—by the scratch riders saw this point reached, with C B. Fitzgerald leading, in 4min ll.Ssec, I.ssec outside the record held by T. J. Morris (Auckland). M. W. Litolff, with G. W. Wood on his wheel, jumped the field just before the bell and looked to have a winning lead. But J. H. Cleary caught him in the final 220 yd and Mann came off his wheel to win narrowly but with ease. It was a very successful evening for Mann. He also won handicap quarter and three-quarter mile races and rode off the field to win the five-mile scratch race. AMATEUR Scratch.—B grade quartermile: G.
