Awards To Actors In Britain
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, March 15. Michael Caine and Virginia McKenna yesterday received Best Actor awards from the Variety Club, of Britain.
Caine received the “Film Actor” award for his role in the film “Alfie.” Miss McKenna received the “Film Actress” award for her part in “Born Free.” David Warner was named “Stage Actor” for his “Hamlet” and Vanessa Redgrave “Stage Actress” for her performance in “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.” Barbara Ferris was named “Most Promising Artist” for her performance in the play “There’s a Girl In My Soup.” To the veteran favourite, Miss Anna Neagle, went a special award for meritorious service in all spheres of entertainment over many years. The comedian, Frankie Howerd, received the “Silver Heart” as the club’s “showbusiness personality of 1966.” “I was beginning to feel if
they didn’t do it soon it would be a posthumous award,” he said.
