Fendalton Red Cross
The good neighbour service was still the main work of the Fendalton sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, said the annual report presented by Mrs A. W. Anderson. Members had helped to prepare fruit and vegetables and had cooked every Friday and three Wednesdays each month throughout the year. About 310 drivers, plus their helpers, delivered meals from the centre and from Princess Margaret Hospital and had driven 4000 miles. Other duties were undertaken by the centre on a rotational basis, assisting with the blood transfusionl service, Calvary psychiatric department, the library service, Cerebral Palsy School, and visiting the 100 per cent disabled servicemen. Old and new garments were sent to Red Cross projects overseas.
Members helped with street collections for the Aged People’s Welfare Council and the Multiple Sclerosis Society, made capes and veils for the Junior Red Cross, made 12 new pairs of pyjamas for the depot and sent eight layettes to Hong Kong. Funds dispensed from the sub-centre included £5O for Pacific relief, £45 for international disaster, £2O to the
New Zealand disaster relief, £l5 to the Greek hospital and £l5 to the Junior Red Cross. Election of officers:—President, Mrs G. Anderson; vicepresidents, Mesdames E. E. Luttrell, A. E. Foote, A.
