RUBBER DISPUTE
No Bonus Work Seven hundred and fifty Canterbury rubber workers yesterday decided to work according to award rates and not to partictCte in any incentive nus plan at their respective factories. This was the result of a stop-work meeting at 1.30 p.m. The 150 rubber workers who struck on Tuesday afternoon at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of New Zealand factory at Papanui would tomorrow return to work according to award rates, said a senior official of the Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union. The effect of the 750 rubber workers’ non-adherance to any incentive plan will mean a drastic cut in production. The 150 Firestone workers struck over the dismissal of 11 workers at the plant on Monday over the three-week-old carbon black dispute. This is over penalty rates of pay.
The Christchurch workers sought the same penalty rates as Wellington workers. In one category this is 3d an hour and in another Id an hour.
