Candidate Withdraws
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) PAPEETE, (Tahiti), March 15. The Gaullist candidate for Polynesia has withdrawn, leaving an Independent and Right-wing candidate to fight for the only seat still outstanding in the French General Election.
Mr Elie Salmon announced his withdrawal last night at the request, informed sources said, of party headquarters in Paris.
Political observers said the move was aimed at unseating Mr John Teariki, the outgoing Independent deputy who is against a French atomic base in Polynesia and favours independence.
