The Economy
Sir, —I have been a supporter of the National Party for years but I must say I think the Government has acted very wrongly. They have not taken steps against those whose actions have caused the run-down of funds, but against children and the poorer members of society. I suggest they examine closely the actions of those importers whose imports have in recent years been removed from control. The sight of brand-new cars being used for carrying sheep dogs, sheep, etc., when hurdles round a light truck would have been more justifiable, does not leave a very good taste in the mouth, especially when the reason given is that another new car will be coming along in a year. The subsidies on food were hated by quite a number of persons on big incomes, because they thought that these prevented a lower income tax. —Yours, etc. SUBSCRIBER March 15, 1967.
