EXPORT AWARD
Christchurch Firm Third A Christchurch firm, C. W. F. Hamilton and Company, Ltd., has been placed third in the New Zealand Industrial Register’s export award for 1966. The firm has built up an export business in marine jet units in Australia, Southeast Asia, England and Europe. The judge, Dr. W. B. Sutch, of Wellington, placed first an Auckland firm, Raywin Press, Ltd., which has built up an export business equalling its total turn-over five years ago. Morrison and Morrison, Ltd., of Hastings was placed second. Included in factors considered in judging were increases in the volume of exports by an enterprise; successful introduction of a new product into the export trade; development of a market abroad for an existing product not previously exported; break-through in a market where competitive conditions are difficult; opening a new trade area previously closed to New Zealand, and a significant contribution to the expansion of exports. Entries which were highly commended were Carbonic Ice, Ltd., of Christchurch, winner of the award for 1965; D. McL. Wallace, Ltd., of Auckland; P.D.L. Industries, Ltd., of Christchurch; Tatra Leather Goods, Ltd., of Wellington, and Venca, Ltd., of Wellington. Raywin Press, the winner of the award, manufactures adhesive labels of all types. It has branches in Wellington and Christchurch, and now has a factory in Melbourne. Currently, the firm is exporting to Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaya and the Pacific bowl area.
The award, a large polished greenstone paperweight and greenstone paper-knife, will be made at a function in Auckland on Wednesday, March 22.
