MOST IN AREA
The Rangiora Borough has the largest population of any local body area in North Canterbury, according to the final 1966 census population figures received by the Waipara County Council at its March meeting. Given as 4117, the population of the Rangiora Borough is just nine ahead of that of the surrounding Rangiora County. The next most populous area is Kaiapoi Borough. The population of other counties was listed as:—
Amuri, 2940: Cheviot, 1526; Waipara, 2962: Kowai, 2239; Ashley, 605: Eyre, 2240; Oxford, 1521. Populations in the Marlborough area were:— Blenheim, 13,242; Marlborough County, 8941; Awatere County, 1805: and Kaikoura County, 3086.
First-day Cover.—Applications for first-day covers for the inaugural Qantas flight from Sydney to Amsterdam on March 30 are now being received at Qantas and Air New Zealand offices. Applications will close on Friday. A tulip design has been chosen for the cover.
