Star Belle Likely To Race Until May
"lhe Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. The champion filly, Star Belle, which had her first race this season on September 3, will still be racing in May if she continues to do well.
Star Belle is thriving on her racing. She showed no lack of interest yesterday when she worked over four rounds at a good pace in the hands of Miss J. Watson, who is attached to the Tucker stable. Star Belle seems to have the New Zealand St. Leger at her mercy. After that she will probably run in the Great Northern St. Leger at Ellesrlie.
The trainer, I, J. Tucker, said there appeared little likelihood of the filly being sold. Recent reports, which mentioned an offer of more than £30,000, were based on tentative inquiries by her owner, Mr J. Sarten, rather than a firm bid.
Two of Star Belle's St. Leger rivals, her stablemate Fair Account and What You Will, ran a solid mile.
What You Will (Hughes) started two lengths ahead of Fair Account (Miss Watson) and held the lead to the three furlongs. Fair Account drew up to him and they finished together, running the last half-mile in 501 sec and three furlongs in 38isec, Fair Account won the New Zealand Derby in the Spring, but a deep bruise in a foot and a virus infection have limited his racing since. Terrific (Hughes) ran a mile yesterday, but he was held to pace work in the early part. He ran the last half-mile in 55 4-ssec and three furlongs in 41 3-5. Terrific fought Hughes all the way and went nearly to the six [furlongs again before pulling up.
