RECORD BID
7-Year-Old N.Z. Time It is probable the seven-year-old New Zealand cycling record will be broken at English Park this evening. The mark in danger is for the amateur three miles, a handicap race. The present record is 6min 15.1 sec set by A. Larkins (Otago-Southland) in January, 1960, at Dunedin. There is a very strong team of seven on the scratch mark, in this evening’s race, all members of the Canterbury team at the national championships: J. H. Cleary, D. A. Swanston, M. W. Litolff, R. D. Mann, C. B. J. Fitzgerald, B. G. Stockwell and S J. Stephen. The latter two, both outstanding juniors, are likely to be useful in setting a hard pace but it is difficult to pick the winner in a sprint from the others. All have had their moments of success this season with Swanston, perhaps, in the best current form.
