PAINTING AUCTION
Record Bid Received (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 14. A water colour of Dusky Sound by Nicholas Chevalier, signed and dated 1872, sold for £425 at auction in Auckland today. This was believed to be a record price paid for a water colour at a local auction. The painting, which was bought by a private collector, belonged previously to the collection of the late Captain E. G. Spencer Churchill. An oil painting by Gottfried Lindauer of Mrs Hane Rupene and her daughter, Huria, in Manania pa, Hauraki district, signed and dated 1880, brought £325. A new Zealand set of 1935 King George V coins, including the Waitangi crown, was sold for £3BO.
