He told University of Oklahoma students that if the plan failed, America could resume full military operations. “Before we escalate ... I would like to have us make this final effort toward peace,” the Senator said. WASHINGTON, March 14. Americans oppose a halt in the bombing of North Vietnam by a majority of four to one, a newspaper survey reported yesterday. last night called on President Johnson to seek a face-to-face confrontation in the United Nations of all countries involved directly or indirectly in the Vietnam war. SAIGON, March 14. South Vietnam’s 20-man National Leadership Committee yesterday decided to discharge the ousted Defence Minister, Lieutenant-General Nguyen Huu Co, from the Army, authoritative sources said. SAIGON, March 14. North Vietnamese unleashed an intense series of mortar attacks on a United States brigade headquarters and on two nearby base camps and wounded 62 American troops, the United States Command reported today. The headquarters also reported two United States helicopters were shot down in South Vietnam while American planes made fresh raids over North Vietnam, including a strike against a radar site on an island 42 mile seast of Haiphong.
