STORM IN WINE CUP
‘Sherry Only From Spain’ (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 14. The 81-year-old head of a Spanish wine company said in London yesterday that he did not approve of an Australian subsidiary of his firm advertising wine produced in Australia as “Australian sherry.” Mr Manuel Gonzalez Gordon, head of the Gonzalez Byass Company, was told in a London Court that the Australian subsidiary, Gonalez Byass Pty., Ltd., had issued an advertisement saying: “It is with pride that I am able to announce the launching today of “Gonzales Byass Australian sherries.” Mr Gonzalaz said it was “madness” to call a wine produced in Australia a sherry. The advertisement had not been approved by the parent company and had been stopped.
