“The Press” Special Service OAMARU. Golden Promise, in the Trial Stakes, and Glocca Morra, in the Autumn High-weight, paid £ll 2s to win the Oamaru Jockey Club’s on course double yesterday. The lightly supported Star Quality, which led the chase after Glocca Morra, paid £lB Is fid for the concession. After having the run of the race in the Trial Stakes, Golden Promise drew away in the straight to beat the Wingatultralned Gay Baron and the favourite, Ngatua. Ngatua, which returned Ms supporters only 17s fid for £l, was slow away and added to

this handicap by running wide into the straight. He finished gamely, but was two lengths and a half, and half a length from the first two. GOOD TRAIL Glocca Morra secured a good trailing position behind Skeltheen in the early stages of the Autumn High-weight, but lost her position in the back stretch and was pushed back to third last. Standout, last early, rushed up to take over the running at the seven furlongs from Lorastan, Tahuna and Skeltheen. Tahuna joined Standout at the five furlongs, but soon dropped out. Lorastan and Ataarangi disputed the pace into the straight with Stageland showing up three wide. Glocca Morra came again, soon had charge, and drew away for an easy two-length win. Star Quality came from the rear for second, three lengths clear of Stageland, with a similar margin to Lorastan. FAVOURITE BEATEN Running Scared, which won at the Banks Peninsula meeting. held off the favourite, Mas-

ter Sheeny, to win the Redcastle Hack Handicap. Ridden by G. R. Gullery, Running Scared was behind the leaders down the back straight. He followed Mighty Peak, which took over the running from Proud Celt at the six furlongs, and drew clear inside the furlong. He had to be kept up to his work to hold off the topweight, Master Sheeny, which came home well after being fourth to the straight. Mighty Peak weakened to third, threequarters of a length back. SLOW AWAY BUT WON Trovanta, a haff-brother by Trovato to the top mare, Court Belle, scored a decisive win in the Weston Stakes after being last away. Trovanta, which is trained by R. J. Cochrane for his Gore breeder, Mr H. G. Wallis, was sixth favourite in the 10-horse field and paid £l4 15s to win. The favourite. Sacred Steps, having his first race from J. C. McKerrow’s Washdyke stable, led to the home turn, but bled and was pulled up. Trovanta put in a strong late run to join Lambano and Jack's Bay near the furlong, and although he ran greenly he drew out for an easy two-length win.

Lambano was always close to the pace. He held off Jack's Bay, which got a good run through on the inside after racing in the third line, by a long neck. There was a gap to the well supported Queen’s Speech, which finished weakly after racing three wide In the second line. FAVOURITE TESTED Bob's Secret justified his favouritism and mastered topweight to beat hie four opponents In the Windsor Handicap, the mile event for hacks. He had to be ridden out at the finish to hold oft the outsider, Capers, which came from last at the three furlongs. Hamadan was slow away, but soon recovered and followed the pacemaker. Expel, to the straight. Expel ran wide, taking Music Man with Mm, and finished last. Bob's Secret got a run through on the inside and had charge as they straightened up. He appeared to be in for an easy win, but Capers closed the gap to half a length. There was two lengths and a halt to Music Man, with Hamadan beaten off eight lengths back.
