Replacing Beef

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 13. If New Zealand poultry farmers could find a bigger market within the country by the end of this century, more beef could be released for export, said the Director-General Of Agriculture (Mr D. N. R. Webb), addressing the annual conference Of registered poultry farmers today. “Beef today is an international commodity, and we just can’t get enough of it to satisfy our customers overseas,” said Mr Webb.

By the turn of the century New Zealand’s population would double its consumption of beef to all the beef New Zealand produced. However, New Zealand’s requirements in overseas exchange would also have doubled. “If your Industry can fill the gap by persuading Ne*f Zealanders to consume more eggs and poultry, and releasing more beef for export, we will be much better off and yon will by making a most solid contribution to the nation’s economy,” he said.
