CHEAPER EGGS
Food Prices Compared (N.Z. Pres* Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Mar. 13. Eggs had fallen 6 per cent in price during the last 10 years while the prices of other foodstuffs had risen, said the chairman of the Poultry Board and the Egg Marketing Authority, Mr G. L. McLatchie, today. In the same period the price of rump steak had risen 38 per cent, leg of hoggett 24 per cent, pork chops 42 per cent, bacon 44 per cent, baked beans and spaghetti 18 per cent, and beef sausages 20 per cent These figures came from Government statistics, said Mr McLatchie, who is in New Plymouth for the 57th annual conference of poultry farmers which opened today.
