GOLFING GAME

Invention By Shearer A Maori shearer hopes to make his fortune with his new invention. He is Mr A. R, Mulligan, formerly of Tokomaru Bay, and now of 232 Worcester street. His invention is a type of target golf. He hopes to put it on the export as well as the local market The invention Is a vertical canvas screen 7ft high and Oft wide with four pockets in it The game can be played in 10 square feet Mr Mulligan says. The player aims first at the bottom pocket and works his way with golf shots to the final hole. The screen is held by a frame built along the lines of a soccer goal. The four pockets are spaced apart at different heights, to enable the full repertoire of shots and elubs to be used. Mr Mulligan says he has worked as a shearer and a slaughterman. Twelve years ago he worked as a greenkeeper and developed an interest in golf. Several large manufacturing firms in Christchurch, he says, are already making his product. He calls it "Garden Golf.”

The first deliveries were made to a city sports dealer on Friday. They will sell in Christchurch for £9 10s. Mr Mulligan has patented his invention. He says he Is negotiating to have his product produced and marketed in Australia, England and America.
