Trainer Missed, But Owner Made Entry
Final Orders, brilliant winner of the Tinakori Handicap on Saturday, and now unbeaten in two starts, may do his Easter racing at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. Riccarton patrons will be in for a galloping treat if S. A. Brown brings him south with other members of his Woodville team.
Final Orders was the only member of Brown’s team to race at Trentham on Saturday. Brown missed the nominations for the Wellington meeting, but Final Orders was entered by his Wellington owner-breeder, Mr J. A. Higgs. Final Orders dominated the Tinakori Handicap field on looks, and his performance was equally attractive. He won by a length and a
half after being last away, and being forced over more ground than anything else in the race. Final Orders completed an on-course double worth £7 10s for holders of 3385 5s tickets, ’ who had coupled him with 1 Golden Guy, winner of the s Ngaio High-weight. ! Those who held 625 tickets on Jane Blithe received a • concession double dividend of £l7 8s 6d. • Those looking for some- ! thing to beat the favourite had their hopes raised when 1 Final Orders was last away. But R. J. Skelton showed i confidence in the ability of
, his mount by starting him on i a big run around the field i after passing the half-mile. Final Orders came to the i straight very wide, but not > far from the lead, and he was , not asked for anything extra i to get to the front. Closer to i home he was floating, but nicely clear with the race > safely won. i Jane Blithe, which had led J the chase after him into the final furlong, saved second by - half a length from Truegent. : Riccarton’s Red Chips was i tenth, drifting out after being handy early. She did not galI lop confidently on the soft : track.
