CATTLE SALE

Steer Calves To £26 Beef-bred calves met a good inquiry at the first of the autumn store cattle sales held at Oxford. The entry comprised 109 adult cattle and 201 calves. Aberdeen Angus steer calves selling from £2l to £25, prices were regarded as very satisfactory to venders. Buying was well-spread, calves being purchased for Culverden, Rangiora, Daifield and the Christchurch district. A range of calf values is: Aberdeen Angus cross steers, £2l to £25; Aberdeen Angus cross heifer calves, £l5 5s to £lB 10s: dairy-bred Shorthorn steer calves, £l4 to £l7; Shorthorn heifer calves £lO to £l4; good Friesian steer calves £l5 15s to £26 10s; others to £l4. Friesian heifer calves, £l9 10s to £2O. The top price in the adult cattle section was £4O paid for the top pen of 22 18 monthsold Hereford steers. The other pen made £39 10s. Other values were: Aberdeen Angus cross steers, £35 to £39 10s; Friesian steers, £32 to £42; empty Friesian heifers, to £3l; Shorthorn and Shorthorn cross steers, to £36.
