Play-off To Panmure “The Press** Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Panmure Aces became the New Zealand champion women's softball team when it won the Dustin Cup by beating Broadway (Wellington) 6-1 in a play-off. Monowai (Canterbury), which was unbeaten in the earlier rounds, lost both its matches on the last day when it was beaten by Broadway and Panmure after leading by the sixth innings in both matches. Results: —Panmure 6, Broadway 1; Panmure 6, Wolves 1; Broadway 19, Monowai 16; Logan Park 9, Melville 3; Panmure 8, Monowai 6; Broadway 15, Logan Park 10; Wolves 12, Melville 11. The game between Monowai and Broadway featured some powerful hitting and there were 35 runs scored. Both teams began well but Monowai batted consistently to take a lead of 15-13 by the sixth innings. But in its last innings Broadway scored two home runs to gain six runs. Monowai went scoreless in its sixth innings and could manage only one run in its last innings. The match against Panmure was much tighter. Down 5-6 starting its last innings. Panmure applied pressure and hit three runs to give it a narrow 8-6 win when it kept Monowai scoreless in its last innings.
