COACH TO FINNS

Mr Lydiard Appointed (N.Z. Press Association 1 AUCKLAND. The New Zealand athletics coach, Mr A. L. Lydiard, has accepted a two-year contract to coach middle distance and distance runners in Finland. He will leave Auckland on March 20 and within a fortnight of arriving In Helsinki will take nine Finnish athletes to a camp which is being set up near Naples for the training of European athletes. He will later return to Helsinki. It is understood his salary will be about 15500 a year, and he will be provided with a flat and a car. "I do not leave New Zealand willingly," Mr Lydiard said yesterday. “But it appears that nobody is much interested here in what I might have, to offer in the prepartion of the New Zealand team tor. the Olympic Games in Mexico City next year. "The Finns have been after me for some time before I went to Mexico and they got in touch with me again after I returned to Auckland.” . Since he returned from Mexico City, where he coached for a time, Mr Lydiard hae been working in the dispatch department of a local breweries firm.
