LATIN NO LONGER

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, March 12. Two of Britain’s most exclusive public schools, Eton and Winchester, have announced that they will drop Latin as a subject in their entrance examinations.

The decision opens the way for more boys from State schools to sit for scholarships for these schools. Thirteen-year-old entrants for the examinations will now have a choice of French or Latin in the tests. French is taught in many State schools.
