AGAINST RISE

WHANGAREI, March 10. A protest against possible increased electricity charges is being sent to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) by the North Auckland Power Board.
The board yesterday referred to the recommendation of the Monetary and Economic Council for a tax on electricity and to recent reports that the Government was considering increasing the capital levy from 25 per cent to 50 per cent. The levy is the amount boards must find from revenue for the annual capital expenditure.
The board decided to protest against both proposals on the grounds that any increase in electricity charges would place an unfair burden on the farming community and have an adverse effect on the savin- of overseas funds by encouraging the use of fuels with a high overseas content
