Experiment At Silverstream

The chairman of the fish committee (Mr N. I. Voyce) said 400 fingerlings which had been exposed to the salt and mud from draglines had been lost This had been a valuable experiment and there had been excellent co-operation from the North Canterbury Catchment Board. It appeared the fish had been suffocated by the salt. This showed that the hatchery would have to be shut off from salt-laden water when draglines were working.
