HUTT FOUR SURPRISES

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. An upset in the fours was the feature of the national rowing championships on Saturday.

The title - holder, Auckland No. 1, was beaten by the Hutt Valley No. 1 boat.

The Auckland crew, only the second to hold the fours title for three consecutive years, did not have the lead for much of the race. The Hutt crew/after rowing the first 1000 metres in 3min 35sec, gave no chances in a finish which held off challenges from Auckland and Wellington.

Saturday was the last day of the events at Lake Waihola. In the eights, a Wellington crew won by half a length. It was the first Wellington club crew to take the eights title. The double sculls race was won easily by the Whakatane pair, D. Molesworth and N. Mills.

The outstanding performance came from the Whakatane club, which, with a

seven-man team took three championship titles and finished second in the Centennial Cup competition. The Star club (Wellington) won the cup with 21 points and Wairau was third with 18.
