Hay Barn Destroyed

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Feb. 27.

The Pleasant Point Volunteer Fire Brigade travelled 18 miles through parts of the Levels, Mackenzie and Waimate Counties this morning to fight a fire in a hay barn on the property of Mr D. N. Collin, Geurin road, Cannington. The call was received at 10.30 a.m. When the tanker unit, manned by a crew of five, arrived, the barn was well alight. Mr W. B. Sheard, one of the fire-fighters, said this evening that 1500 bales of hay worth about 10s a bale was destroyed. Firemen fought until 2.15 p.m. to prevent the fire spreading to a big line of trees edging the bam. The property was insured.
