PREPARING TO RETIRE
Church Offers Course
A course on preparation for retirement, which will be held In the Oxford terrace Baptist Church hall on Thursday evenings from March 30 to May 11, is believed to be the first of Its kind sponsored by a church in New Zealand. The aim is to “turn what might be a burden of years into a bonus to be exploited and enjoyed to the full.” Because experts consider preparation should begin early, the course is open to any man or woman within 15 years of retirement or who has been retired not more than two years. There will be no charge but members are asked for an undertaking to attend the full course.
Speakers will include: Dr. W. R. Holmes, "facing retirement"; Dr. H. R. Donald, “health in retirement”; Mr R. W. Hopkins, senior lecturer in accountancy at the University of Canterbury, and officers of the Social Security Department, ‘'financing your retirement”; Mr I. G. Clark, university extension studies department, “activities by ourselves”; Mrs P. A. Tipping, convener of the housing committee of the National Council of Women, “homes and living arrangements”; Mr D. W. Rutherford, director of extension studies, “activities with others”; the Rev. A. H. MacLeod, "exploring in retirement”.
The church is sponsoring the course as “an act of social concern.”
