School Staff “Sore”
Because the new school year began on a Wednesday, and because of new regulations introduced for the counting of school half days, the Christchurch Girls’ High School was forced to begin its second and third terms on a Monday, the principal, Miss P. M, Robinson, told the monthly board meeting.
She said the staff was •‘feeling very very sore.” “I can’t see why an evening prize-giving couldn’t be counted as a half day,” she said.
Miss Robinson said that she felt that the department’s attitude towards this matter was “cheese-paring.”
The school roll was 736, which was five more than last year, Miss Robinson said. The bursary scheme introduced last year for 6A pupils had served the function it was designed for. She said it had given a purpose to the second year sixth form year. It was not going to be easy to get an A bursary in four subjects without working hard.
