INDOOR BOWLS

1116 Fewer Playing

A drop of 1116 members was reported at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Indoor Bowls Federation in Wellington. However, the current number of 67,681 still makes it one of the largest sporting bodies in the country, said the retiring president (Mr F. K. Osborn). A financial loss on the year’s'working of about £lOO was disclosed in the balance sheet. An unexpected profit was made on the national tournament in Invercargill. An increase was recorded in the numbers of blind bowlers. New districts were formed and old districts revived in this section of the game, said Mr Osborn. Canterbury players predominated in the lists of prizewinners. R. Watson and A. E. Williamson won the national pairs title and in the blind section, Canterbury teams won the Foundation Rose Bowl four, the Friendship Cup four and the Vailes Cup. The South Canterbury pair, S. Green and B. Wilson, won the open pairs. Mrs D. Baty, of Canterbury, won the Boles Cup for the women’s singles.
