PROPOSALS FOR BAY
Drainage Bd. Report
The proposal to reclaim part of McCormack’s Bay, retaining a substantial part as a water sports area, could be approved in principle, subject to the land and stormwater drainage including tide-gates, overflow weirs and water levels being provided at no cost to the board, but to the board's satisfaction, the chief engineer (Mr P. J. McWilliam) said to the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. Earlier proposals for the bay had been for reclamation of the whole bay, and the board had been concerned that stormwater outfalls should be extended to the estuary from drains that at present discharged into the bay, he said. Consideration was deferred until the next meeting.
