Attempt To Get Bodies
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, February 28.
An effort would be made by foot to recover the bodies of the two young Wellington climbers high on the west ridge of Mount Malte Brun (10,421 ft Senior Sergeant D. T. Crowe of the Timaru police said today. The attempt might be made on Thursday by a a team of about 20 climbers from Christchurch. It is expected to take two to three days.
Alistair Chapman, aged 19, a student, of 8 Paeroa street, Wellington, and Colin Andrew Smyth, aged 24, a former student, were reported overdue on ' a climb of the mountain from Malte Brun hut on February 14. Their bodies are about 9000 ft up the ridge, close to the conventional track. It is believed they are on a rock ridge about 200 ft above a vertical rock face, and access to the bodies is likely to be extremely difficult
