AN EXPERIENCED OFFICIAL

The controller appointed by the Canterbury Water Polo Board for the New Zealand water polo championships in Christchurch next week is Mr J. de Haan. He is no stranger to the innumerable problems and tasks imposed by such a position, having been secretary of the New Zealand Water Polo Board in 1965 and of the Canterbury board for two years before this.

Following his retirement from first-class play, Mr de Haan was appointed a national selector. He was also able to devote more time to refereeing with the result that he was made an internationally-graded referee in 1963.

Apart from his position as controller of the tournament, he is also selectorcoach of the highly-rated Canterbury B team, and, in addition, will be engaged to referee the more important of the 40 matches.
