ASSAULTS ON BABIES
Housewife
Questioned
Christchurch detectives at 9 a.m. yesterday questioned a 19-year-old housewife in connexion with a series of assaults on babies in prams in the
city and suburbs recently. The housewife, mother of a two-year-old child, had suffered a miscarriage about six months ago. Later in the morning, the head of the C. 1.8. (Detective Superintendent F. A. Gordon) said that mothers need have no concern for the safety of babies left unattended in shopping centres and parks.
Detectives were still checking on some of 30 reports of babies having suffered scratches and bruises while lying in unattended prams between December and 4 p.m. on last Tuesday.
