THE WINNING HIT
The Canterbury fast bowler, B. R. Taylor, swings a ball from the Australian spin bowler, J. Gleeson, for the winning run in the match between Canterbury and Australia at Lancaster Park yesterday.
Taylor scored 37 in 35 minutes in a 50-run partnership with J. W. Burtt to take Canterbury from 130 for six to a four-wicket victory. The Australian fieldsman is P. Philpott.
It is the first time an Australian team has been beaten by a New Zealand team since they began playing on level terms. In 1877 a Canterbury XV beat Australia by six wickets and in 1881 a Wanganui XXII beat Australia by 10 wickets.
