SLUICE GATE FOR AVIEMORE.—One of two de-watering sluice gates, 15ft wide, which have been made at the Ministry of Works plant zone at Gracefield, Lower Hutt, for the Aviemore hydro-electric power project. Each gate is to be loaded on to a transporter for shipment to Lyttelton by ferry. Special arrangements have had to be made with local authorities because of the width of the load, which is also one of the heaviest single consignments yet carried by the ferry. In this photograph the gate is vertical, with the skin-plate face down. When installed, the “A” frames will be in a horizontal position with the skinplates vertical.
