Promotion For Head Of C.I.B.
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 9. r Detective Chief Superintendent W. H. A. Sharp, national head of the C. 1.8., has been appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police at Wellington Police Headquarters.
The appointment, which became effective at the end of last month, was announced today by the Minister of Police (Mr Allen).
Mr Sharp returned to New Zealand last month from a 12-month course at the Imperial Defence College, in London. He was the first New Zealand police officer to attend the college, which is conducted by the British Ministry of Defence for the training of senior administration officers and civil servants from Commonwealth countries.
Mr Sharp joined the police in 1937. After duty in Dunedin, Invercargill and Auckland, he was -transferred to the C. 1.8. as a detective sergeant at Rotorua in 1952. He was transferred to the Auckland C. 1.8. as detective inspector in 1961. In 1963 he went to Christchurch as detective chief inspector in charge of the C. 1.8. The next year he went to Wellington national headquarters as detective superintendent, national head of the C. 1.8.
Mr Sharp is a member of the police promotion board.
