WHANGAREI, February 9. Mrs Elizabeth Annie Tidey, of Opua, today celebrated her one hundred and first birthday. Well-wishers have included the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson), Lady Fergusson and their son Geordie, who called before leaving Paihia. Lady Fergusson showed great interest in Mrs Tidey’s fancywork. Mrs Tidey has lived with her daughter, Mrs Con Taylor, almost 40 years, the last 15 at Opua. She is remarkably fit for her age. She enjoys needlework, watching television, following the races, playing cards and a daily glass of beer. Four years ago she flew to Addington to see Cardigan Bay win the New Zealand Trotting Cup.
