Driver Barred For 20 Years

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Jan. 26. Convicted for the seventh time of driving while disqualified, Graham Charles Talbot, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, fined £l5O and disqualified for a further three years when appeared before Mr H. J. Evans, S.M. “With the previous terms of disqualification, this means that you will not be driving for the next 20 years,” said the Magistrate. Talbot pleaded guilty to driving a car, while disqualified, in Ayr street, Oamaru, on January 5. Mr C. R. McGinley, who ap-

peared for the accused, said that imprisonment had not done Talbot any good. He therefore asked for probation, so that Talbot could be guided. It was almost two years since his last offence, and this indicated a considerable improvement on his past behaviour, Mr McGinley ?id. “You have revealed flagrant attempts to defeat the law, and this is the seventh time you have been convicted for this offence,” said the Magistrate. “You started in 1959, committed your second offence in 1964, and then in 1965 you were convicted on four different occasions. “In addition, you were convicted of drunken driving causing death in 1963, and of dangerous driving in 1965.

“Under the circumstances I cannot see any indication that probation is likely to bring about any reformation within you,” said the Magistrate.
