Marriage Conditions

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) 1 ADELAIDE, Jan. 26. The Rev. Wilfred Dennis, the Church of England minister in Loxton, 160 miles north-east of Adelaide, has listed seven conditions for couples to be married in this church. One of the conditions is that “premature marriages” of expectant mothers must be celebrated in street dress, and the bride must not wear white.

“The privilege of wearing the white gown of purity is for the girl who earns it,” he says in the latest edition of his parish magazine “Link.” “No premature wedding goes uncommented upon, and hypocrisy is the last straw. “If a young couple come seeking a marriage of this kind, let them come honestly.’’ The seven conditions for marriage are:—

No full white wedding will be permitted under three months’ notice.

No marriage will be contracted between a youth less than 20 and a girl less than 18.

Both parties must be baptised.

No marriage will be performed in Lent.

The normal marriage service for communicants is the nuptial mass. Wedding fees will be required.

Premature marriages will be celebrated in street dress.
