Large Margin Of Falls On Heavy Turn-over

The margin of falls over rises widened considerably on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Turn-over was heavy, and trading was widespread.

The New Zealand list had 23 falls, against only three small rises. The overseas section improved, in line with Australian markets of Wednesday.

The day’s highlight was ail further rise of Is, to 565, in i the glamour stock of I’

ilast year. Whereas only six months ago the market (wondered whether B.H.P.

would top 600 cents, in Sydney yesterday the stock briefly touched 672, before settling down to 666. Mount Isa gained 6d to 35s 6d.

Several sales of New Zealand Steel were made, the stock rising Id to 2s 8d for the 2s 6d paid share. U.E.B. Industries recovered Id to sell at 10s.

The rises were small, but some large falls were recorded.

New Zealand Refining at 44s and N.Z. Industrial Gases at 36s 6d lost another Is each. Dominion Breweries fell a further Id to 15s 2d, and N.Z. Sea Products Id to 4s 2d.

Bank of N.Z. Finance, at 14s, Mount Cook Tourist at 13s 6d, National Insurance at 25s 6d, and South British Insurance at 28s 6d lost another 3d each.

The market lost ground slightly on the Sydney Stock Exchange yesterday. The mining section was a shade easier and the engineering section lost ground.
